Two Luxair incidents in one week highlight precautionary and emergency procedures

Luxair experienced two separate operational incidents within the same week, involving different aircraft types and routes, both of which ended safely with no injuries.

Flight LG6991

Earlier in the week, a Luxair flight from Luxembourg to Milan (LG6991) was forced to turn back shortly after take-off and return to Luxembourg-Findel. The aircraft involved was a brand-new Embraer E195-E2, the latest and most modern regional jet in Luxair’s fleet, with its first unit delivered in late November 2025. Luxair initially described the return as a purely precautionary measure. Later in the day, the airline clarified that the decision was not linked to any engine or safety malfunction, nor to a Brazilian aviation authority (ANAC) directive that restricts E195-E2 operations in very specific freezing fog conditions. The incident occurred just days after the aircraft’s official inaugural flight to Vienna, attended by Luxembourg’s mobility minister and Luxair’s CEO.

In a separate and more dramatic incident, a Luxair Dash 8-400, operating flight LG8255 from Luxembourg to Nice, made an emergency landing in Nice after experiencing a technical problem with the right landing gear. After departure with a slight delay, the aircraft spent around an hour flying over the Mediterranean while crews prepared for landing. One engine was shut down as a precaution. Passengers were informed of an emergency situation, and cabin crew instructed them to adopt the “security position” ahead of landing.

The aircraft landed safely at Nice, where it came to a stop on the runway and was met by emergency services. All 74 passengers and crew were unharmed and were taken by bus to the terminal. Luxair confirmed that standard emergency procedures were followed and that psychological support was made available. An internal investigation has been launched in line with safety regulations.

A passenger on board described the experience as extremely stressful, noting the solemn atmosphere in the cabin and the visible scale of emergency response on the ground, but also expressed relief that the situation ended without injuries.

Together, the two events underscore Luxair’s strict adherence to precautionary and emergency safety procedures, with both flights concluding safely despite very different operational circumstances.
