Luxair has taken delivery of its first two owned Boeing 737-8 aircraft at Luxembourg Airport, marking a new stage in a fleet-renewal programme valued at more than €1 billion.
The programme will eventually comprise nine Embraer aircraft and 12 Boeing jets, with options for two additional Boeing aircraft. By the mid-2030s, Luxair could operate up to 14 737 MAX aircraft, while all aircraft currently in service will have been replaced.
Configured for 186 passengers, the 737-8 will primarily serve routes with high demand. Luxair is retaining a 30-inch seat pitch across the fleet, while the Boeing Sky Interior provides larger windows, increased overhead storage and adjustable LED lighting.
The airline says the aircraft consumes around 20% less fuel and produces approximately 20% fewer CO? emissions than the models it replaces. Its noise footprint is also claimed to be 50% smaller. CEO Gilles Feith expects lower fuel consumption and emissions-related charges to save around €1.5 million per aircraft annually, although he cautioned that rising staff costs mean these savings will not necessarily result in cheaper fares.
Questions were raised at the presentation about FAA-mandated inspections prompted by micro-cracks discovered on some 737 MAX aircraft. Boeing said it had introduced additional precautionary oversight and strengthened its safety and quality systems.
Luxair received four Embraer E195-E2s during the first half of 2026 before welcoming the two Boeing aircraft. Further new-generation jets will arrive progressively as older aircraft are withdrawn
