SWISS’s first Airbus A350 makes maiden flight, named “Lausanne”

Share

SWISS International Air Lines celebrated a major fleet milestone as its first Airbus A350-900 completed a successful maiden test flight from Airbus’s Toulouse facility. The aircraft, named Lausanne after the Swiss cultural and Olympic city, is the first of ten A350s the airline will receive by 2031 as part of a long-haul fleet modernisation programme.

The new A350 features the airline’s next-generation ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin and offers significant environmental improvements: 25% less fuel consumption, 25% lower CO? emissions, and up to 50% less noise.

During the several-hour test flight, Airbus engineers monitored key systems including aerodynamics, avionics, and cabin pressure. The aircraft has already passed extensive ground tests, including brake performance and high-speed takeoff aborts.

The aircraft still carries the temporary registration F-WZHI, with official delivery and Swiss registration (HB-IFA) expected in early October. The A350 also sports a special ‘SWISS Wanderlust’ livery celebrating Switzerland’s diversity.
