SWISS International Air Lines has revealed its first Airbus A350-900 featuring the world’s first aircraft livery applied entirely via precision-cut films. The “SWISS Wanderlust” design, unveiled at Airbus’s Toulouse site, transforms the aircraft into a flying art gallery and homage to Switzerland’s landscapes, landmarks, and culture.
Instead of traditional paint, over 360 custom-designed film pieces covering 380 square metres were manually applied using 3D software mapping. The design showcases Swiss cities and symbols, such as Zurich’s Grossmünster, Geneva’s Jet d’Eau, Bern’s Parliament, and icons like the alpine marmot and Freddie Mercury statue in Montreux.
Before entering service later this summer, the aircraft will undergo final testing in Toulouse. Meanwhile, SWISS invites the public to explore the livery through an interactive AR experience and a treasure hunt at swiss.com/treasurehunt, with a chance to win an A350 Business Class trip.
This project marks a milestone for both SWISS and Airbus, combining innovation, precision, and national pride in an aircraft unlike any other.
