SWISS Airbus A350 enters passenger service with first flight to Palma de Mallorca

Share

SWISS’s first Airbus A350, registered HB-IFA “Lausanne”, has officially entered passenger service, marking the start of a new era for the airline’s long-haul fleet. The inaugural revenue flight LX2152 departed Zurich for Palma de Mallorca at 07:11 local time on Saturday with 233 passengers on board — all experiencing the new ‘SWISS Senses’ long-haul cabin for the first time.

Over the coming weeks, the A350 will be deployed on select European routes such as Prague, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Málaga and Palma de Mallorca to facilitate pilot conversion training. These shorter flights will allow SWISS crews to complete numerous takeoffs and landings before the aircraft begins intercontinental operations.

“Introducing a new aircraft type is always a major undertaking,” said Oliver Buchhofer, SWISS Chief Operating Officer. “Our teams have worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth and safe service entry.”

Dennis Weber, SWISS Chief Financial Officer, added: “The A350 embodies our investment in a premium, sustainable travel experience — offering greater comfort, efficiency and lower emissions.”

The A350’s first long-haul flight is scheduled for November 20, operating from Zurich to Boston, when passengers will experience the full SWISS Senses cabin and long-haul service for the first time.

The Airbus A350 offers significant environmental and comfort advantages, using 25% less fuel and producing 50% less noise than previous-generation aircraft. Its advanced composite materials also allow for lower cabin pressure and higher humidity, enhancing passenger well-being.

SWISS plans to add nine more A350s to its fleet by 2031, gradually replacing its older A340-300 aircraft.
