SWISS A350 diverts to Almaty after co-pilot medical emergency

Share

SWISS flight LX123 from Seoul to Zurich made an unscheduled landing in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 6 May 2026 after the co-pilot suffered a medical emergency mid-flight. Three doctors on board provided immediate assistance, and the crew diverted on medical advice to ensure rapid hospital treatment.

The Airbus A350 aircraft (registration HB-IFB), carrying 227 passengers and 14 crew, remains in Almaty while the co-pilot receives care. Passengers and crew have been accommodated in hotels, and an additional pilot is being flown in.

The flight could not continue the same day due to regulatory requirements, including cockpit role qualifications and crew duty time limits. Departure is now expected overnight Thursday to Friday, with arrival in Zurich scheduled for the morning of 8 May.
