A flight operated by Swiss International Air Lines was forced to abort takeoff in New Delhi, India on Sunday morning, 26 April, after an apparent engine problem, leading to an emergency evacuation in which six passengers sustained minor injuries.
The incident occurred at Indira Gandhi International Airport as flight LX147 was preparing to depart for Zurich, Switzerland. The aircraft involved, an Airbus A330-343 registered HB-JHK, was accelerating on runway 28 when the crew detected an issue with one of the engines.
According to initial reports, the problem may have involved an engine malfunction accompanied by visible flames during the takeoff roll. The flight crew reacted promptly, aborting the takeoff and bringing the aircraft to a complete stop on the runway.
Following standard safety procedures, an emergency evacuation was initiated. During the evacuation, six passengers were injured, reportedly with minor injuries, and were transported to hospital for further medical assessment.
In a short video circulating on social media, a flight attendant can be seen giving clear and assertive instructions to passengers during the evacuation, while also assisting a woman who is heard shouting that she had broken her hand.
Authorities and the airline have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the engine failure and the subsequent evacuation.
