On 28 May 2019, a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 (D-ABVU) operating flight LH426 between Frankfurt (FRA) and Philadelphia (PHL) landed on Philadelphia’s runway 27R but touched down hard, rolled out and taxied to the apron.

Due to the hard landing, part of the cowling of engine number one fell on the runway, without causing further damage to the aircraft as the 747 could continue its taxi to the terminal. Air traffic temporarily closed the runway for inspection.

The airline was forced to cancel the return flight to Frankfurt. The aircraft is still on the ground at Philadelphia, at moment of writing.
