Munich Airport has officially opened the Oktoberfest season with a festive kickoff featuring Bavarian officials, airport leadership, and Lufthansa’s traditional costume crew. As part of the 190th Oktoberfest, Lufthansa will operate special “dirndl and lederhosen” flights, including long-haul routes to Shanghai (Sept. 20) and Seoul (Sept. 29), alongside select European destinations. The tradition, revived in 2006, includes Bavarian specialities served on board and in lounges.

Over the 16-day festival, Munich Airport expects 16,000 takeoffs and landings and around 2.3 million passengers—a 4% increase from last year. Guests arriving at Terminal 2 will be welcomed with gingerbread hearts, roasted almonds, live folk performances, and themed pop-up stores. Airbräu will also host weekend celebrations, including the 20th tapping of its “Gaudium” Oktoberfest beer.
