A two-day strike by pilots at Lufthansa is expected to cause significant disruption to flights at the airline’s main hubs, Frankfurt Airport and Munich Airport, on 12 and 13 March.
The 48-hour walkout is set to affect all Lufthansa passenger and cargo flights departing from Germany. The airline plans to operate just over half of its scheduled services during the strike period using a reduced timetable.
Short-haul European flights are likely to be the most heavily affected, with hundreds of cancellations expected across the network. Long-haul services will be comparatively less impacted, as Lufthansa aims to maintain roughly 60 percent of its intercontinental flights.
Flights operated by other airlines within the Lufthansa Group may continue largely as scheduled, while some routes to the Middle East have been exempted from the strike due to the current geopolitical situation.
Frankfurt and Munich, Lufthansa’s two largest hubs, are expected to bear the brunt of the disruption, with passengers advised to check the status of their flights before travelling.
