Lufthansa launches Frankfurt–Kuala Lumpur nonstop, expands Southeast Asia footprint

Share

Lufthansa is reinforcing its long-haul strategy in Asia with the launch of a new nonstop service between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant expansion of its Southeast Asia network for the winter 2026/27 season.

The year-round route will commence on October 25, 2026, operating five times weekly—daily except Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tickets are now on sale.

Optimised Hub Connectivity

Flight LH704 will depart Frankfurt Airport at 21:30, arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 16:40 local time the following day. The return service, LH705, leaves Kuala Lumpur at 23:55, landing in Frankfurt at 06:00 the next morning.

The schedule is structured to maximise connectivity through Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, offering onward links across Europe and North America.

Boeing 787-9 with Allegris Cabin

The route will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, currently the most advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft type in Lufthansa’s fleet. Configured with 287 seats across three classes, the aircraft features the carrier’s new Allegris cabin concept, designed to elevate premium long-haul travel.

Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, said the deployment of the Dreamliner and the new cabin product positions the airline to capitalise on Southeast Asia’s growth momentum while strengthening its premium positioning for both business and leisure travellers.

Strategic Bet on Malaysia

Malaysia represents a key growth market for the German carrier. With 42.2 million visitors in 2025, the country was Southeast Asia’s most visited destination, driven by its mix of cultural diversity, natural landscapes and historic heritage.

On the commercial side, Germany is Malaysia’s largest EU trading partner, with more than 700 German companies operating locally—underpinning robust corporate demand.

From the Lufthansa Group’s home markets—Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy—the airline will be the only carrier offering nonstop service to Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur becomes the Group’s fourth Southeast Asian destination, alongside Bangkok, Singapore and Phuket.

The new route signals Lufthansa’s continued pivot toward high-growth Asian markets, pairing network expansion with product modernisation as global long-haul competition intensifies.
