Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa honoured for service on board and on the ground

The airlines of the Lufthansa Group have also won a range of World Airline Awards this year. The awards are based on results of the world’s largest customer survey in the airline sector, which is conducted annually by the quality institution Skytrax. Over 18 million passengers from more than 160 countries evaluated around 200 airlines worldwide for this purpose.

Austrian Airlines was awarded first place for its service on the ground and in the air in the category “Best Airline Staff in Europe”. The airline also took first place in the category “Best Business Class Onboard Catering”. What was authoritative for the top place was in particular the culinary range in Business Class on long-haul routes, with its award winning  menus from DO&CO, Vienna coffeehouse service and in-flight chefs.

The investments of more than three billion euros made in the past three years in equipping cabins and lounges, as well as in service, have paid off for Lufthansa. The airline won through in the awards ceremony in Le Bourget near Paris in the categories “Best Airline Transatlantic”, “World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge” and “Best Airline in Western Europe”. Lufthansa is currently equipping its over 100 aircraft in the long-haul fleet with its exclusive First Class, the new Business Class and the Premium Economy Class. In addition, Lufthansa now offers the broadband internet service FlyNet on board all long-haul aircraft.
