Lufthansa may face a pilot strike after union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced that a vast majority of members voted in favour of industrial action in a dispute over pensions. No strike date has been set, but the vote is seen as a final push to secure a more generous deal.
The airline has resisted union demands, warning it could shift jobs to lower-cost subsidiaries Discover and City Airlines. Lufthansa says its priority is ensuring the long-term viability of its core brand, Lufthansa Classic.
The potential strike adds to ongoing labour and cost-cutting challenges for the German carrier, which recently announced plans to cut 4,000 administrative jobs by 2030 and raise profitability targets. Analysts remain cautious, citing risks from aircraft delays, union resistance, and cost pressures.
