Lufthansa is set to face significant disruption on Friday as the UFO union has called a one-day strike involving cabin crew from both Lufthansa and its regional subsidiary Lufthansa CityLine.
The strike will run from 00:01 to 22:00, affecting all departures from Frankfurt and Munich, as well as CityLine operations across multiple German airports, including Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Stuttgart. Widespread cancellations are expected, with only a limited number of flights operating.
The industrial action follows an overwhelming vote in favour of strikes, with around 94% of Lufthansa cabin crew and nearly 99% at CityLine supporting the move. The dispute centres on demands for improved working conditions and a social plan for CityLine employees, as the subsidiary is set to cease operations and be replaced by a new entity.
The union stated it avoided the Easter holiday peak but acknowledged disruption for returning passengers. Lufthansa has criticised the strike as disproportionate and is urging a return to negotiations.
Passengers are advised to check flight status, as cancellations and delays are expected, with standard EU passenger rights—such as rebooking or compensation—applying where relevant.
