Lufthansa has launched a comprehensive cabin retrofit programme for its Airbus A320 fleet, with 38 aircraft set to receive upgraded interiors by 2029.
The first retrofitted aircraft, an Airbus A320 registered D-AIZY (“Zulu Yankee”), has returned to scheduled service following its overhaul. Each aircraft conversion takes about 30 days and involves installing roughly 1,000 components sourced from about 100 suppliers.
The modernisation includes new ergonomically designed seats from Italian manufacturer Geven, featuring adjustable headrests across the cabin. In Business Class, passengers benefit from enhanced recline for added comfort.
The updated cabin design aligns visually with Lufthansa’s latest long-haul aircraft deliveries, reinforcing a more consistent premium product across the network.
One of the most visible changes is the installation of overhead bins that are 40% larger than the previous generation. The redesigned compartments allow carry-on baggage to be stored vertically, increasing capacity and improving boarding efficiency.
All seats are equipped with both USB-A and USB-C charging ports, along with integrated tablet and smartphone holders to support passengers using personal devices for onboard entertainment.
The investment underscores Lufthansa’s strategy to elevate the short- and medium-haul passenger experience, particularly within its core A320 family fleet — the largest segment of its narrowbody operations.
