Lufthansa Group has announced its most extensive network expansion since 2020 for summer 2027, with ten new intercontinental connections, additional European routes, and increased frequencies across its airlines. The programme opens for booking on 20 October, although some services were already available.

The expansion includes new US routes for Lufthansa, Discover Airlines’ first service to Edmonton, ITA Airways flights to Caracas and a new Brussels Airlines connection to Cairo.

Brussels adds Cairo and strengthens Tanzania services

Brussels Airlines will launch Brussels–Cairo on 29 March 2027, with up to five weekly flights. Initially planned as a summer service, the route could eventually operate year-round.

Kilimanjaro, introduced in June 2026, will increase to three weekly flights from late June 2027. The group announcement also lists additional frequencies to Porto, Heraklion, Zakynthos and Funchal, alongside the inclusion of Evenes in the summer programme.

Lufthansa expands in the US and Japan

Lufthansa will introduce Frankfurt–Columbus on 5 May, operating three times weekly with a Boeing 787-9 featuring its Allegris cabin. From Munich, Phoenix will join the network on 3 August, with three weekly Airbus A350-900 flights.

Japan will receive additional capacity from Frankfurt. A daily Tokyo Narita service starts on 28 March, complementing Lufthansa’s existing Haneda flights, while Nagoya returns seasonally from 29 March with three weekly departures.

Frankfurt–Kuala Lumpur, due to launch in October 2026, will continue through summer and increase to daily. Lufthansa also plans more flights to Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, Hyderabad, Chennai and Montreal.

From Munich, the airline will add a second seasonal Delhi service from 28 March and increase frequencies to Bengaluru, Chicago, São Paulo and Singapore.

Discover adds Edmonton; ITA launches Caracas

Discover Airlines will launch Frankfurt–Edmonton on 1 June, with three weekly flights. Edmonton will become its third Canadian destination alongside Calgary and Halifax.

The leisure carrier will also base a third Airbus A330-300 in Munich, supporting an increase in Windhoek services to five weekly departures.

ITA Airways will introduce Rome Fiumicino–Caracas on 30 March, operating three times weekly with an Airbus A330-900. A new domestic connection between Rome and Verona starts on 28 March.

SWISS, Austrian and Edelweiss increase capacity

SWISS will retain its newly introduced Zurich–Bengaluru route through summer with five weekly flights and increase Tokyo Narita frequencies. Toulouse will join its network twice weekly between 25 June and 23 August.

Austrian Airlines will operate daily Vienna–Tokyo Narita flights from May to October, five weekly Shanghai services and daily Bangkok flights throughout summer. Mauritius and Malé will continue into late April, while Beirut is scheduled from June to September.

Edelweiss will bring forward the start of its Windhoek season to 16 March, increasing to three weekly flights from July. Kilimanjaro/Zanzibar will receive four weekly services, while frequencies will rise to up to four weekly flights to Punta Cana and up to five each to Malé and Tampa.

Eurowings will announce its summer 2027 programme separately.
