Lufthansa Group to tighten integration among hub airlines

The Lufthansa Group will reorganise its internal structure and processes from January 1, 2026, bringing its hub airlines—Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines—closer together. The goal is to strengthen their market position, improve efficiency, and boost profitability.

Key points

  • Customer experience remains local: Each airline will continue to manage in-flight products, catering, lounges, and passenger services, as well as flight operations.

  • Deeper integration behind the scenes: Functions such as network management for short- and medium-haul flights, IT, HR, finance, and technology will be managed centrally. Long-haul network steering has already been coordinated group-wide for a decade.

  • New governance model: Decisions will be coordinated through “Group Function Boards” (Hub Steering, Technology, HR, and Finance), with joint participation from airlines and group executives.

  • Digital focus: IT and innovation capabilities will be consolidated under CTO Grazia Vittadini, merging the Digital Hangar and Innovation & Tech Factory into a central digital hub for the Group.

Passengers are expected to benefit from a more coordinated network and consistent digital services across airlines, while the Group anticipates faster decision-making and cost savings.
