  • From November 2017, Eurowings will fly from Düsseldorf to four dream destinations in the Caribbean
  • Cheap direct flights to Varadero, Punta Cana, Cancun and Puerto Plata
  • Eurowings is already the number one in North Rhine-Westphalia
  • Managing Director Oliver Wagner: “We are building our pole position with long-distance routes
  • Caribbean flights start at 199.99 euros, already bookable

Eurowings is expanding its long-distance connections. For holidaymakers in North Rhine-Westphalia so far, there were only flights from Cologne directly into the Caribbean. For almost two years, Eurowings has been offering long-haul flights to dream destinations all over the world: not only in the Caribbean but also in the Far East and the United States. In just a few weeks, it will also fly for the first time from Düsseldorf: From the ‘Kö’ to the Caribbean! In addition, the state capital, including its Royal Boulevard Königsallee (“Kö”), will have access to low-cost Eurowings long-haul flights starting at 199.99 euros from November 2017 onwards.

Punta Cana will start in the Dominican Republic from 8 November with four flights a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. This is followed by quasi-pre-Christmas presents – Varadero in Cuba (for the first time on 16 December) and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic (from 14 December). Varadero is on Saturdays, Puerto Plata every Thursday. The quartet is completed by Cancun in Mexico, which Eurowings will serve every Monday from 18 December. Customers can now book all four Caribbean destinations on www.eurowings.com or via their smartphone and tablet via the Eurowings app.

Eurowings Managing Director Oliver Wagner says:

“Düsseldorf as a state capital needs an attractive and low-cost long-distance airline at the largest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia. Eurowings is ready to take on this role; however, the precondition for this is that the business processes at Düsseldorf Airport will improve significantly and the economic conditions will be right”.

In the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Eurowings has already risen to the number one position. This year the airline from the Lufthansa Group replaced its fleet of 90-seat Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft with 16 factory-new Airbus A320s, each accommodating up to 180 guests. As a result, Eurowings has nearly doubled its offered capacity at Düsseldorf within a short period of time.

Managing Director Wagner:

With the new long-range offer, we will expand our pole position in Düsseldorf.

Eurowings has set a new record for the past week. For the first time, more than 90,000 guests flew with Eurowings in one day. The low-cost long-haul routes, which are very important for customers, also contribute to this: Eurowings flights to destinations outside Europe have been booked to a load factor of almost 90 percent for months.

The courage that we have demonstrated with a high investment in the new business model of low-cost long-haul is now paying off,” says Wagner. The signs for the Eurowings long-haul continued unchanged in the coming year. The airline will soon receive its seventh long-range Airbus A330 and will offer customers more than one million seats at attractive prices in the coming year.

In addition to Cologne and Düsseldorf, Eurowings will soon offer low-cost long-haul flights from Munich. In the summer of 2018, Germany’s second-largest airport will be launching three Eurowings Airbus A330s. The first flight from Munich in April 2018 leads Eurowings customers into the American casino city Las Vegas. “The advance bookings for Munich are developing very well,” says Wagner. “This is an enormous incentive for us – and for the start of the long-distance routes in Düsseldorf.

Our comment: The Lufthansa Group through Eurowings jumps on the opportunity left by Air Berlin which was compelled by the lessor of its A330 aircraft to abandon its long-haul base of Düsseldorf. However, it will have to reckon with the competition of Condor, which will start A330-200 service from Düsseldorf to Punta Cana, La Romana, Cancun, Montego Bay and Barbados on 01 November 2017.
