This means that passengers can check in their luggage quickly and flexibly at one of the ten self-bag drop kiosks in Terminal 1 and thus benefit from the many advantages of this service.

“Using state-of-the-art, fully automated luggage check-in kiosks, Eurowings passengers can check-in their luggage themselves quickly and securely. The kiosks make it faster for passengers to check in their luggage than at the check-in desk so in future, they’ll also be more flexible when departing. Eurowings already offers the self-bag drop service at other airports where it’s proven successful and is popular with passengers. We’re glad that we can now offer our passengers this new, innovative service at Hamburg Airport as well,” says Katrin Rieger, Eurowings Vice President Customer Experience and Product.

Mirjam Fröhlich, Project Manager Self Bag Drop at Hamburg Airport, says, “Thanks to our state-of-the-art self-bag drop kiosks, Eurowings passengers can now take advantage of an even wider range of services. In future, people travelling with Eurowings at our airport will be able to choose between checking in their luggage quickly and flexibly at the kiosk or using the classic desk service, enabling each to experience the perfect personal start to their business trip or holiday.”

In future, with a new, fully automated luggage check-in, passengers will gain even more independence and flexibility when departing. The aim is to optimise the travel experience for Eurowings passengers by offering them time-saving processes.

Fast and flexible luggage check-in with self-bag drop

Ten self-bag drop kiosks have been operating in Terminal 1 of Hamburg Airport since November 2017, launching Hamburg Airport as a next-generation airport. Four stations were also set up for automated check-in. Thanks to state-of-the-art, fully automated luggage check-in, passengers gain even more independence and flexibility when departing. This allows passengers to check in their luggage regardless of the desk opening times, usually up to 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The self-bag drop option frequently helps to avoid waiting times as well. Operating the kiosks is straightforward and self-explanatory and staff are also on hand at all times to provide assistance and personal support where necessary.
