Eurowings has unveiled a novel service allowing couples to get married on board scheduled flights, positioning itself as the first airline to offer legally recognised weddings in the air.
The initiative comes amid a historic decline in marriage rates in Germany, with the airline aiming to bring a new dimension to wedding ceremonies by moving them above the clouds.
Under the scheme, couples can book ceremonies on flights lasting at least 120 minutes, with applications required around eight weeks in advance. The optional “Marriage Package,” priced at €199.99, includes an onboard ceremony conducted by specially certified captains, a champagne toast and additional celebratory touches. Ceremonies can be held publicly over the aircraft’s announcement system or privately in the cabin.
To support the concept, selected Eurowings captains are being trained and authorised as officiants, mirroring practices long established in the cruise industry.
The airline is also integrating the service into its tour operator arm, Eurowings Holidays, which now offers combined wedding-and-honeymoon packages. These include the in-flight ceremony followed by a two-week stay at five-star resorts in destinations such as Mallorca or Mauritius, complete with dedicated wedding suites and all-inclusive services.
The move reflects Eurowings’ strategy to differentiate its leisure offering while tapping into experiential travel trends—turning the journey itself into a milestone event.
