Eurowings and the Government of the Balearic Islands have agreed to deepen their cooperation to strengthen Mallorca as a year-round tourism destination and create more stable employment outside the peak summer season.
As part of this strategy, Eurowings will significantly expand its winter operations from 2026/27, basing six aircraft in Palma during the winter months—double the number deployed just two years ago. The move is intended to help spread visitor demand and economic activity more evenly throughout the year.
The airline is also exploring the establishment of a maintenance facility in Palma, a project that could generate highly skilled, permanent jobs in aircraft maintenance while supporting Eurowings’ growing fleet. The proposal could also foster the development of a new technology-focused business sector on the island, with potential collaboration involving local universities on workforce training and innovation.
Eurowings CEO Max Kownatzki said the airline and the Balearic Government share a common objective of positioning Mallorca as “a destination for all four seasons,” highlighting the island’s appeal for sports, nature and wellness tourism beyond the traditional summer beach market.
The expansion builds on Eurowings’ long-standing presence in Mallorca. Since opening its Palma base in 2017, the airline has grown to employ nearly 1,000 people locally. During the summer season, it operates around 400 weekly flights linking Mallorca with 26 airports, primarily in Germany and Austria. Through investments such as its ground-handling subsidiary Wings Handling, Eurowings says it remains committed to supporting the island’s long-term economic and tourism development.
