Discover Airlines expands Nordic network with two new Finnish destinations

Share

Discover Airlines will continue expanding its Nordic network in 2027 with the launch of seasonal services to Savonlinna and Kajaani, giving travellers even more opportunities to explore Finland throughout the year.

The Lufthansa Group leisure carrier will become the only airline offering nonstop flights from Frankfurt to both destinations. The new routes will increase Discover Airlines’ Nordic network to eight destinations across Finland, Norway and Iceland, with around 20 weekly flights from Frankfurt and Munich.

The first addition will be Savonlinna, with weekly Saturday evening flights from 19 June 2027 during the summer season. Situated in Finland’s renowned Lakeland region, the destination is known for its thousands of lakes, outdoor activities and the famous “white nights”, when daylight extends well into the night around midsummer.

For the winter season, Discover Airlines will replace the Savonlinna service with a weekly Friday flight to Kajaani, starting on 17 December 2027. Located in northeastern Finland, Kajaani offers easy access to winter sports, snow-covered forests, Northern Lights viewing and traditional Finnish experiences such as floating saunas.

“Travel to the Nordic countries remains very popular, as reflected in rising booking figures,” said Marco Götz, Chief Commercial Officer of Discover Airlines. “With Savonlinna and Kajaani, we are adding two distinctive destinations that showcase different sides of Finland while tailoring our network to seasonal travel demand.”

Flights to Savonlinna are already available for booking through Discover Airlines, Lufthansa and travel agents, while tickets for Kajaani will go on sale in December 2026.

The new services further strengthen Discover Airlines’ growing presence in Northern Europe. From 2027, its Nordic network will include:

  • Evenes (up to four weekly flights from Frankfurt year-round and two weekly from Munich in summer);
  • Alta (twice weekly from Frankfurt in winter);
  • Kittilä (up to twice weekly from Frankfurt year-round);
  • Ivalo (weekly from Munich in winter from 23 December 2026);
  • Bodø (twice weekly from both Frankfurt and Munich during summer);
  • Reykjavík (up to three weekly flights from Munich year-round);
  • Savonlinna (weekly from Frankfurt in summer); and
  • Kajaani (weekly from Frankfurt in winter).

The expansion reflects continued strong demand for Nordic leisure travel, with Discover Airlines increasingly focusing on seasonal destinations offering outdoor experiences, nature tourism and winter activities.
