Third Brussels Airlines Airbus A330 (OO-SFO) flies to scrapyard in Crestview, Florida

Share

After the Airbus A330-303 registered OO-SFN (MSN 037) that flew to Pinal Park, Arizona, for salvage on 13 November 2018 and A330-303, OO-SFM (MSN 030) towards Crestview, Florida, via Bangor, Maine on 3 January 2019, it was the turn of another A330-301, OO-SFO (MSN 045) to leave Brussels Airport, this morning.

This aeroplane took off for its first flight on 31 January 1994 at Toulouse-Blagnac. It first flew under the colours of Air Inter from 21 February 1994 with registration F-GMDC and joined the Sabena fleet with its current registration on 12 November 1997. After the Sabena bankruptcy, it was taken over by Birdy Airlines operating the African flights for SN Brussels Airlines, and later was incorporated into the Brussels Airlines fleet.

It operated its last revenue flight on 17 February 2019, as SN278 from Accra, Ghana to Brussels Airport.

OO-SFO took off as flight SN9901 from Brussels Airport at 08:22 (UTC +1) this morning for its last trip. It landed at Bangor at 08:22 local time for a stop. Like sister aircraft OO-SFM, OO-SFO will continue as SN9903 to Crestview, Florida, its final destination today and for always.

Brussels Airlines invests in the replacement of seven of its ten Airbus A330 long-haul aircraft and of the most substantial investment projects in the 16-year long history of Brussels Airlines. It’s also the first time ever that the airline operates long-haul aircraft that are owned and not leased.

Working for 25 years in the aviation industry, I changed my career and became a firefighter/EMT in 2021. I like to spend my free time with my two sons, girlfriend, family and friends. I love to travel, wine and dine and support my favourite football squad KV Mechelen. Once an Ironman 70.3 finisher and dreaming of completing a full distance.
