Brussels Airlines is further modernising its short- and medium-haul fleet with the approval of five additional Airbus A320neo aircraft. The decision, taken by the airline’s Board of Directors, will bring the total number of A320neo aircraft in the fleet to 13 by the end of the decade.
The Belgian flag carrier currently operates five A320neo aircraft, with three more expected before the end of 2025. The next delivery, directly from Airbus’ production site in Toulouse, is scheduled for November. The newly approved batch of five aircraft will be phased in from 2027 onwards, mostly replacing older-generation aircraft while allowing for limited growth of the fleet.
“Brussels Airlines has worked very hard to achieve a cost structure that allows the airline to be sustainably profitable, enabling us to reinvest in our company,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines. “The A320neo reduces our environmental footprint and offers a more pleasant experience for our passengers. We are very happy to welcome more of these state-of-the-art aircraft to our fleet.”
The Airbus A320neo delivers up to 20% lower CO? emissions and 50% less noise compared to previous models. It is also equipped with larger overhead bins, offering 40% more storage space and contributing to faster boarding and deplaning.
Brussels Airlines uses the A320 family across its extensive European network, making the model central to its short- and medium-haul operations.
Alongside its narrowbody renewal, Brussels Airlines is also reinforcing its long-haul network. The fleet will soon expand to 13 Airbus A330 aircraft, and from 2027 the carrier plans to introduce new intercontinental cabins. In addition, the airline is preparing to renovate its award-winning business lounge at Brussels Airport, THE LOFT.
