On Saturday afternoon (4 August) “Trident”, the Brussels Airlines Airbus A320 (OO-SNA) with distinct Red Devils livery took off from Brussels Airport for a scheduled flight to Las Palmas. According to Robin Rouffe, a plane spotter, one of the engines made a loud noise during take-off. The aircraft leveled off at 5,500 feet and entered a holding northeast of the airport, about 35 minutes later, Trident landed back safely at Brussels Airport.
Brussels Airlines spokeswoman Maaike Andries explained to Aviation24.be that the aircraft was hit by a bird during the take-off procedure. After the bird strike the aircraft made a normal landing back at Brussels Airport. “We look at different options to get our 147 passengers to Las Palmas as quickly as possible,” Maaike Andries confirmed.
Robin De Koeijer, one of the passengers on board told Aviation24.be that “Brussels Airlines is doing their utmost to bring us to Las Palmas as soon as possible. We will have more news at 19:00, either we will leave this evening, possibly tomorrow.”
