Brussels Airlines is gradually phasing out the Sukhoi SuperJet 100’s – operated by CityJet – during Winter 2018/2019. For some time now, the Belgian airline is dissatisfied with the performance of the Russian aircraft, facing many flight cancellations and AOG’s (aircraft on ground).
The Sukhoi SuperJet’s are being replaced by Canadair CRJ-900 and CRJ-1000 aircraft from Air Nostrum. In July 2018, Air Nostrum and CityJet have announced to have signed a Heads of Terms with the aim to bring about closer co-operation between the two airlines under the umbrella of a new holding company.
The first CRJ-1000 already started operating for Brussels Airlines, the second regional jet will enter the network at the end of December 2018 and two more are expected in January 2019.
