Four Romanian men who scammed Brussels Airlines for a total amount of €30,000 have today been sentenced between nine months and two years imprisonment.
The four “passengers” consistently booked the cheapest tickets and boarded their flights with empty debit cards. During the flight, they showed great interest in the duty-free items by buying several items. With the empty debit cards, the culprits were able to deceive the in-flight sales computer (the sales computer is in flight mode and only communicates with the computer system once back on the ground).
Back in Romania, they sold the stolen duty-free items. A grand total of €30,000, Brussels Airlines wants to recover from the four people.
