On 5 November, the left engine of a Brussels Airlines Airbus A330 (OO-SFZ) flying between Kinshasa and Brussels as SN359 failed to operate. At that moment, the aircraft was cruising at 40,000 feet and one hour from touchdown. The pilots safely continued to Brussels on engine number two. As a precaution, firefighting teams awaited the aircraft upon arrival.

Passengers witnessed a sudden explosion and saw flames coming out of the left engine. The pilot confirmed the engine failure and reassured the passengers, so did the flight attendants.
