Brussels Airlines has cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv through Tuesday, 6 May, following a rocket attack launched by Yemeni Houthi rebels, which resulted in debris landing near Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel. The decision was made by the Lufthansa Group, of which the Belgian airline is a part.
The airline’s scheduled flight on Sunday morning was already cancelled, and Monday’s service on 5 May will also not operate. Affected passengers have been offered rebooking or full refunds.
The Israeli military attempted to intercept the projectile, but debris reportedly landed near a parking area at the airport. Footage released by Israeli police shows a crater at the impact site.
This marks the third consecutive day of rocket fire from the Houthis towards Israel, in what the group claims is an act of solidarity with Hamas. The attacks have intensified since Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza on 18 March.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant issued a stern warning in response: “Whoever dares to strike us will be hit ten times harder.”
