Brussels Airlines Airbus A320neo OO-SBA operated the first flight SN3289 to Tel Aviv in months on Wednesday, departing Brussels Airport around 10:00 with all baggage loaded despite a boycott by airport ground staff.
The Christian trade unions ACV Puls and CNE confirmed employees refused to handle luggage for the flight, citing security concerns over renewed tensions in the Middle East and recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about occupying the Gaza Strip. The airline, which manages its own check-in, ensured baggage was loaded by other means, reportedly involving management.
Brussels Airlines had suspended Tel Aviv flights multiple times over the past year due to regional unrest, with the route now restored at two flights per week (Wednesdays and Sundays).
The union has requested formal conciliation and vowed to maintain the boycott until flights to Israel are halted.
