Brussels Airlines resolved social tensions with its pilots as an agreement was reached between management and the pilots’ union delegations, prompting the cancellation of the impending strike.
The agreement aims to enhance the balance between pilots’ professional and personal lives while ensuring the airline’s competitiveness. Changes include improved working hours and additional rest periods, deemed a significant improvement in safety by the SETCa/BBTK union representative, Olivier Van Camp. Pilots will have the option of using three annual “jokers” on challenging routes.
The initial strike planned by pilots for December 11 is no longer relevant due to these agreements, though meetings with unions are scheduled to further address staff welfare.
Cabin crew unions previously withdrew their strike plan in December after discussions with management, which proposed financial assurances and advancements in working conditions, rest, and sick leave compensation. Staff will be consulted on these proposed changes by the month’s end.
