Christina Foerster, member of the Lufthansa Group Executive Board, will take over the airline’s leadership on an interim basis. Christina Foerster knows Brussels Airlines well, having served there as CCO from 2016 and as CEO between 2018 and 2020. A long-term successor for Peter Gerber is to be found as soon as possible.

Between 2001 and 2004, Gerber was the project manager responsible for the group-wide “D-Check” programme to safeguard earnings.  Following that position he took over responsibilities in the areas of collective bargaining policy and social security of the Lufthansa Group. This period spanned five years between 2004 and 2009 In June 2009, Gerber was appointed to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG and was responsible for Finance and Human Resources. In June 2012 Gerber moved to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Passage Airlines and was responsible for Human Resources, IT & Services. Since May 2014, Peter Gerber has been Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG.

According to VRT, citing Aerotelegrap, Peter Gerber will become CEO of competitor airline Condor Flugdienst in 2024.

Brussels Airlines has changed CEO four times in the five most recent years. Bernard Gustin led the company until early 2018 and was replaced in April by Christina Foerster, before Dieter Vranckx succeeded him in 2020. The Belgian then gave way to Peter Gerber in 2021.
