Brussels Airlines will introduce African-inspired meal options on long-haul flights from sub-Saharan Africa to Brussels starting January 2026, further reinforcing its position as the Lufthansa Group’s Africa expert.

Serving 18 destinations across sub-Saharan Africa, the airline aims to enhance the onboard experience by reflecting the region’s rich culinary heritage. The new meals draw inspiration from local flavours, ingredients and cooking traditions, adapted specifically for in-flight service to make passengers feel more at home.

The menu will rotate regularly. Initial offerings include Cape Malay braised chicken with cashew nuts, mango and coriander in Business Class, and Cod Mbongo, a traditional Cameroonian dish, in Economy Class. These dishes will complement the airline’s existing in-flight catering.

According to Brussels Airlines, the initiative aligns with its ambition to deliver a “boutique hotel in the air” experience, offering a tailored product that resonates with both African and international travellers.

The introduction of African-inspired cuisine forms part of broader investments in passenger experience. Recent enhancements include redesigned tableware and updated service procedures, while Business Class passengers departing Brussels continue to enjoy menus by Belgian star chef Glenn Verhasselt. A new Brussels Airlines lounge is also scheduled to open in summer 2026.
