Brussels Airlines holds off on fuel surcharge despite rising jet fuel prices

Brussels Airlines said it does not plan to introduce a fuel surcharge in the short term, despite rising aviation fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Several airlines have already announced price increases. Air India has introduced surcharges ranging from about €3.73 on domestic flights to more than €170 on North American routes, while Qantas plans to raise international ticket prices by roughly 5%. Thai Airways expects increases of 10–15%, and both Scandinavian Airlines and Cathay Pacific have confirmed temporary fare increases.

According to Brussels Airlines spokesperson Joëlle Neeb, the carrier—part of Lufthansa Group—is currently shielded by a fuel hedging policy covering about 80% of its needs. However, the remaining unhedged portion could still push fuel costs 20–30% higher in the coming months if jet fuel prices continue to rise.

The airline said future ticket prices will depend on market developments, leaving the possibility of adjustments later if fuel costs remain elevated.
