Brussels Airlines flight SN278 from Accra, Ghana, to Lomé, Togo, and Brussels, Belgium, on 20 July was forced to return to Kotoka International Airport shortly after take-off on 20 July 2026 following the detection of a technical problem.
Flight SN278 (operated by Airbus A330-300 registered OO-SFP) departed Accra at 18:06 local time, but the crew decided to return as a precaution after identifying the issue. The aircraft landed safely just 12 minutes later, at 18:18, with no injuries reported.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) praised the crew for following established safety procedures and reiterated that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.
Brussels Airlines has launched an investigation into the cause of the technical fault, in accordance with aviation safety procedures and under the oversight of the GCAA.
Following the incident, flight SN278 was cancelled. The airline assisted affected passengers in line with Ghana’s air passenger consumer protection regulations. The GCAA also emphasised that Ghana’s aviation safety oversight system continues to operate normally.
The Airbus A330 returned to Brussels via Lome on 21 July as SN1278.
