Belgian day at Moscow Sheremetyevo for first Brussels Airlines flight, operated by Aerosmurf

On June 2, 2019, Sheremetyevo International Airport organised an official ceremony for the arrival of the inaugural Brussels Airlines flight from Brussels, which previously flew to Domodedovo. The list of attendees included: Mr. Jean-Arthur Regibeau, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belgium in Russia, Denis Pashkovsky, Deputy Director General for Commercial Activities at Sheremetyevo International Airport JSC, Mr. Frederic Dechamps, Senior Sales Director for Belgium at Lufthansa Group, and Mr. Dirk Grossmann, Sales Director for Russia at Lufthansa Group.

Belgium Day started at the art gallery in Terminal E with the opening of the Best Views of Brussels exhibition, organised by Brussel’s official tourist agency visit.brussels and supported by the Embassy of Belgium in Russia. The exhibition showcased photos by famous Brussels-based photographer Eric Danhier.

“As an old city with world-famous museums, beautiful parks, and unique architecture, Brussels is a popular hotspot, including for Russian tourists. We invite everyone to rediscover the wonderful capital of Belgium,” said Mr Jean-Arthur Regibeau, the Ambassador of Belgium in Russia.

The first Brussels Airlines passengers had a special festive check-in procedure. Everyone was offered a sweet treat: iconic Belgian waffles with various toppings. Passengers arriving in Moscow from Brussels were met with delicious cupcakes at Sheremetyevo.

The first flight was served by Airbus A320 OO-SND “Aerosmurf,” a unique plane with a livery featuring the famous Smurfs, legendary Belgian comic book creatures.

Brussels Airlines’ flights from Sheremetyevo are a new chapter in the development of air travel between Russia and Belgium, which served as the theme of the official part of the event. Mr Jean-Arthur Regibeau said, “Regular Brussels Airlines flights to and from Sheremetyevo is an important event that marks the beginning of the effective cooperation of Belgium’s national airlines and Russia’s largest airport. This will undoubtedly contribute to the enhancement of cultural ties and business relations between our countries.”

“Sheremetyevo meets the highest standards of service and has an amazing infrastructure. Regular Brussels Airlines flights from Sheremetyevo will connect the two airports, which offers quick and convenient access to the two countries’ business capitals,” indicated Mr Frederic Dechamps, Senior Sales Director for Belgium at Lufthansa Group.

Denis Pashkovsky, Sheremetyevo International Airport JSC’s Deputy Director General for Commercial Activities, said, “We are very happy to welcome Brussels Airlines to Sheremetyevo International Airport. We are glad to offer the highest standards of service and modern infrastructure to the company and its customers. The airport’s convenient location and easy transport access are a big plus for business travellers and the tourists flying from Brussels to Moscow to see the historic sights of the Russian capital.”

The airport will serve Brussels – Moscow – Brussels flights four times a week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays (arrival at 15:20 Moscow time, departure at 16:40 Moscow time), on an Airbus A319. Passengers of Brussels Airlines will be served at Terminal E.
