In 2018, Brussels Airlines booked a net profit of €12.8 million

Last year, Brussels Airlines booked a net profit of €12.8 million, thus reducing the cumulative loss to €92.7 million. In 2017, it registered a net loss of €61.9 million. For the first time in its history, the Belgian airline welcomed more than 10 million passengers.

In total, the Lufthansa daughter carried 10.03 million passengers in 2018, an increase of 10% compared to 2017. Partly due to the acquisition of most activities of Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium and its holiday destinations, but also due to higher seating capacity.

More than €1.5 billion revenues, up 12% compared to last year. The airline noted that a one-off settlement with insurance companies in the aftermath of the 22 March 2016 attacks was reached, which allowed €17 million to be added to the operating result.

The staff increased by 11.5% from 3,151 to 3,512 persons (629 pilots, 1,518 cabin crew and 1,365 ground staff).

The fleet grew to 55 aircraft (all leased) with the addition of 4 A320s, 6 A330s and 2 A340s and the phasing out of one A330. Furthermore, the airline wet-leased 3 SSJ100s, 2 CRJ1000s and one ERJ-145. Two A330s and two A340s were leased to Eurowings under an ACMI contract.

The above annual figures were published on the website of the National Bank of Belgium, since they were no longer published by Brussels Airlines after its (now abandoned) integration into Eurowings.
