Traffic results for September 2016: Austrian reports increase in passenger volume at the end of Q3

In the period January to September 2016, the red-white-red carrier succeeded in increasing passenger volume: On balance, Austrian Airlines transported more than 8.6 million passengers, an increase of 3.2 percent from the prior-year period. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) climbed by 4.4 percent to more than 18.6 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) sold by Austrian Airlines in the first nine months of 2016 rose 2.0 percent from the previous year to more than 14.3 billion. Capacity utilization fell slightly by 1.8 percentage points to 77.0 percent.In the month of September 2016, Austrian Airlines transported close to 1.2 million passengers. This comprises a rise of 6.0 percent from the previous year. The number of flights in September 2016 rose by 7.2 percent to a total of 12,596 flights. This is mainly due to the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany. The flight offering in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 5.5 percent to more than 2.3 billion. Austrian Airlines sold more than 1.8 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in September 2016, an increase of 2.2 percent from the prior-year level. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 79.6 percent, a decrease of 2.6 percentage points compared to September 2015.
