Austrian Airlines transported over 1.4 million passengers in August 2018, corresponding to a rise of 6.9 percent compared to August 2017. Particularly the strong performance of flights in Europe contributed to this growth once again. However, more passengers were registered on long-haul flights too, with Asian destinations performing especially well. The flight offering, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) was raised by 6.4 percent. Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased by 9.3 percent. Capacity utilization of the flights (seat load factor) was at an average of 86.2 percent in August 2018, which is 2.3 percentage points higher compared to the prior-year month. The number of flights climbed up by 4.1 percent in August 2018 to 13,958.
“This continuous increase in passenger volume shows that we are on the right track”, says Andreas Otto, Member of the Executive Board and CCO of Austrian Airlines. “Our competitors at Vienna Airport will not only have to stand their ground against each other, but also against a stronger Austrian Airlines.”
In the period January to August 2018, Austrian Airlines carried a total of over 9.2 million passengers, resulting in a rise of 8.5 percent compared to the prior-year period. The flight offering in available seat kilometres (ASK) was up by 5.0 percent. Revenue passenger kilometres increased by 7.6 percent compared to the first eight months of 2017. Capacity utilization was up by 1.9 percentage points to 78.8 percent. The number of flights climbed up by 5.0 percent in the period from January to August 2018 to 100,093.
