• Slight increase of passenger load factor by 0.3 percentage points in May
• January-May 2017: 12.6 percent increase in passenger volume
Austrian Airlines further increased its passenger volume in the month of May 2017: Austria’s red-white-red carrier transported close to 1.2 million passengers, corresponding to a rise of 15.1 percent compared to May of 2016. This increase is mainly due to the airberlin aircraft, deployed within a wet-lease agreement since March and the associated expansion of European flight offering as well as the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany. The flight offering, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was up by 9.1 percent to more than 2.4 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) increased by 9.5 percent to 1.8 billion. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 74.1 percent in May 2017, a slight increase of 0.3 percentage points from the prior-year month.
In the period January to May 2017, Austrian Airlines carried a total of more than 4.5 million passengers, comprising a rise of 12.6 percent. The flight offering in available seat kilometers (ASK) was up by 7.1 percent to close to 9.8 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers amounted to round 7.1 billion, an increase of 6.8 percent compared to the first five months of 2016. Capacity utilization was down slighty by 0.2 percentage points to 72.3 percent.
