Austrian Airlines transported over 11.2 million passengers in the first nine months of 2019, corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 5.5 percent. European flight traffic expanded by 5.6 percent from the previous year. With a growth of 14.4 respectively 14.5 percent, flights to North America and the Middle East/Africa also contributed to the general growth. On routes to the Middle East/Africa capacity utilization rose by 6.4 percentage points, which is attributable to particularly good ticket sales. In the entire Austrian Airlines network, the flight offering measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) was up 3.1 percent. Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) climbed 5.1 percent compared to the first nine months of 2018. Capacity utilization (passenger load factor) of the flights equaled 81.2 percent, a rise of 1.5 percentage points. The number of flights operated by Austrian Airlines was increased by 3.8 percent since the beginning of the year to 106,165.

“Our routes to Africa and the Middle East are developing very well. The outlook is also positive, which is very pleasing in view of the upcoming winter flight schedule – in which we have Cape Town or Mauritius, for example, back in the program,” says Andreas Otto, Member of the Management Board and CCO of Austrian Airlines.

About 1.5 million passengers flew with Austrian Airlines in the month of September 2019, comprising a rise of 4.3 percent from the prior-year month.
