An Austrian Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Vienna diverted to Sofia on Sunday evening after a bomb threat, prompting a security inspection of the aircraft.
Flight OS82, operated by an Airbus A320 registered OE-LZE carrying 51 passengers and six crew members, landed safely in the Bulgarian capital. Passengers disembarked while authorities searched the aircraft, the airline told Sky News.
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Transport and Communications said the crew reported the threat and squawked the emergency code 7700 near the Romanian border and decided to divert. A Bulgarian Air Force MiG-29 fighter was dispatched to escort the aircraft to Sofia, where the relevant agencies launched an inspection.
Austrian Airlines said it would rebook passengers onto the earliest available alternative flight after the search. The statements did not report the outcome or confirm whether they found any suspicious device. Following the security checks, however, the aircraft was cleared to continue to Vienna with all its passengers.
