LOT Polish Airlines places its first ever Airbus order for 40 A220s

Paris, France, 16 June 2025 – LOT Polish Airlines has signed a firm order with Airbus for 20 A220-100 and 20 A220-300 aircraft, marking the airline’s first-ever selection of Airbus aircraft. This strategic decision, announced at the 2025 Paris Air Show, is part of LOT’s broader fleet modernisation plan and includes an option to expand the order to a total of 84 A220s in the future.

“Today’s announcement is a step towards the future. The Airbus A220 family, set to enter our fleet from 2027, will unlock new development and expansion opportunities – key elements of our long-term vision,” said Micha? Fijo?, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines. “These state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient aircraft will enhance our competitiveness across Europe, reinforce our leadership in Central and Eastern Europe, and prepare us for our future role at the Central Communication Port.”

“This landmark order officially welcomes LOT Polish Airlines into the Airbus family,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales, Commercial Aircraft at Airbus. “The A220-100 and A220-300 are the ideal aircraft to support LOT’s fleet renewal and network growth. We are excited to partner with LOT and provide the tools needed for a smooth and efficient integration of the A220 into their operations.”

LOT’s new A220s will gradually replace its current regional fleet, providing increased operational flexibility and enabling the launch of new routes and destinations. The A220 offers the longest range and lowest fuel burn in its class, carrying between 100 and 160 passengers on routes up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 km).

Equipped with Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation PW1500G GTF engines, the A220 delivers a 50% reduction in noise footprint and is already certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims to make all its aircraft 100% SAF-capable by 2030.

As of May 2025, Airbus has received more than 900 firm orders for the A220 from over 30 customers, with more than 415 aircraft already delivered and in service with 24 airlines worldwide, flying over 1,600 routes and serving more than 470 destinations.
