LOT Polish Airlines closes 2025 with record traffic and historic fleet expansion

Share

LOT Polish Airlines has reported its strongest operational year to date, carrying 11.7 million passengers in 2025 — a 9.4% increase year-on-year — while launching new destinations, accelerating fleet renewal and securing major industry recognition.

The results underscore the Polish flag carrier’s ongoing transformation strategy aimed at building scale, strengthening financial resilience and modernising its product offering across both short- and long-haul operations.

Traffic Growth and Network Expansion

In 2025, LOT inaugurated nine new routes, expanding its European and leisure footprint. New destinations included Lisbon, Thessaloniki, Reykjavik, Marrakech, Stavanger, Rovaniemi, Malta, Paris-Orly from Kraków, and Barcelona from Radom.

The airline also strengthened its regional presence across Poland, reinforcing its multi-airport strategy beyond Warsaw.

Looking ahead, LOT has announced 15 additional routes scheduled for launch in 2026. Among the most significant developments are new long-haul services enabled by fleet growth. A Warsaw–San Francisco route is set to commence in May 2026, followed by Bangkok later in the year.

Additional announced routes include:

  • Malaga (already launched)
  • Gda?sk–Istanbul (already launched)
  • Bologna
  • Porto
  • Heraklion
  • Palma de Mallorca
  • Almaty

Regional expansion will continue with new connections from Kraków to Madrid, Barcelona and Rome, and from Gda?sk to Istanbul, Brussels, Oslo and Bergen.

Record Fleet Modernisation Programme

A cornerstone of LOT’s 2025 performance has been the launch of the largest fleet modernisation programme in its history.

The airline has placed firm orders for 55 new aircraft, with options for an additional 44 units. Deliveries of Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft began at the turn of the year, with 13 expected to enter service by mid-2026.

In the final quarter of 2026, the long-haul fleet will expand with two additional Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. Meanwhile, LOT has initiated preparations for the introduction of Airbus A220 aircraft, which will ultimately form the backbone of its regional fleet.

By the end of the decade, LOT expects to operate one of the youngest fleets in Europe.

Product Upgrades and Passenger Experience

LOT has paired its fleet investments with upgrades to the passenger experience. Newly delivered Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft feature:

  • Modern slimline seats
  • USB-C charging ports
  • Mobile device holders
  • Six-way adjustable headrests
  • A fully refreshed interior design

On the ground, the airline has refurbished its business lounges in Warsaw, aligning their design with the concept introduced at the LOT Business Lounge in Chicago.

These efforts have been recognised by the industry. At the Le Bourget Air Show, LOT was named the best airline in its region and received a 4-star rating from Skytrax — a milestone achievement for the carrier.

Leadership Perspective

CEO and President Micha? Fijo? described the results as a milestone moment for the airline, highlighting both traffic growth and structural transformation.

He emphasised that the delivery of 55 new aircraft — with further options secured — will significantly reshape LOT’s operational profile over the coming years. Despite ongoing industry-wide challenges, he confirmed that 2026 will bring further developments, particularly the launch of new long-haul routes.

Strategic Outlook

LOT Polish Airlines’ 2025 performance reflects a dual-track strategy: scaling capacity while enhancing product quality. Traffic growth nearing double digits, combined with aggressive fleet renewal and route expansion, positions the airline to strengthen its competitive standing in Central and Eastern Europe.

With long-haul expansion underway and regional connectivity deepening, LOT enters 2026 with operational momentum and a clear trajectory toward fleet modernisation and network diversification.
