Loganair has completed a historic milestone by operating the UK’s first all-electric commercial flight, marking a major step toward low-emission aviation.
The flight, conducted in Scotland from Glasgow to Dundee, used the ALIA CTOL aircraft developed by BETA Technologies. This battery-powered, fixed-wing aircraft represents a new generation of zero-emissions aviation technology.
The initiative is part of a two-week demonstration programme across Loganair’s network, testing the aircraft’s real-world capabilities for transporting freight, mail, and essential supplies such as medical goods. The goal is to gather operational data and assess how electric aircraft can be integrated into commercial regional aviation.
CEO Luke Farajallah described the achievement as a “landmark day,” emphasising that the programme goes beyond theoretical concepts by demonstrating practical, in-service application.
The flight highlights the potential of electric aircraft to decarbonise short-haul routes while maintaining critical regional connectivity. It also positions Scotland at the forefront of next-generation aviation, as airlines explore scalable and economically viable pathways to net-zero emissions.
