The company Ju-Air resumed flights this Friday after the accident that killed 20 people on August 4 at Piz Segnas (Canton Graubunden). One of the two scheduled flights today, however, had to be cancelled due to weather forecasts for a thunderstorm.
Some 80% of the passengers have maintained their flight bookings for this season, Ju-Air director Kurt Waldmeier told the media in Dübendorf (Zurich). Another 10 per cent preferred to cancel their flight and 10 per cent deferred.
The flight cancelled Friday should have taken off at 18:30 with Mr. Waldmeier at the controls. On the other hand, the flight of a “Tante Ju” by chief pilot Andreas Pfisterer to Bensheim in Germany is maintained.
A test flight has already been made with this aircraft in the morning. In addition, the aeroplane was examined by inspectors of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).
The officials had discussions with the entire Ju-Air team, from the pilots to the cabin crew to the check-in staff. They were asked about their ability to navigate. Some staff members asked for a break, said Waldmeier. This was not seen negatively, but rather as a sign of strength. Thursday FOCA authorised the resumption of flights Ju-Air on Friday.
