Jambojet has added a new De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q400 turboprop to its fleet, increasing its total aircraft count to 10 as it responds to strong growth in Kenya’s domestic air travel market. The aircraft, registered 5Y-JXO, was officially received at the airline’s main hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
Jambojet CEO and Managing Director Karanja Ndegwa stated that the addition supports the airline’s long-term fleet expansion strategy, which aims to increase its domestic market share to 65%. The aircraft will boost capacity on key routes, including Kisumu, Eldoret and Diani, while also supporting future network expansion within East Africa and beyond. In the short term, it will help meet peak festive-season demand, traditionally the busiest period of the year.
The aircraft was ferried from Ontario, Canada, covering more than 12,000 kilometres with multiple stopovers (Goose Bay, Reykjavik, Exeter, Malta, Aswan, Addis Ababa) before arriving in Nairobi, marking another milestone in Jambojet’s growth as Kenya’s leading domestic carrier.
