New route strengthens tourism and economic ties between Italy and Mauritius

ITA Airways has officially inaugurated its new nonstop route connecting Mauritius and Rome Fiumicino, marking the airline’s first-ever direct service to the Indian Ocean island.

The inaugural flight, operated by an Airbus A330neo, landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport at 11:20 a.m. local time, where a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the occasion. Attendees included Mauritius’ Minister of Tourism Richard Duval, ITA Airways Chief Commercial Officer Emiliana Limosani, and senior representatives from Mauritius’ tourism and airport authorities.

Minister Duval hailed the new service as “the beginning of a new chapter” in bilateral relations, saying the route “will bring our peoples even closer together and create new opportunities for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.”

Limosani said the launch reflected ITA Airways’ growth strategy focused on intercontinental expansion:

“Mauritius — the pearl of the Indian Ocean — adds to our portfolio of top leisure destinations. This route strengthens the ties between Italy and Mauritius while delivering the signature elegance, comfort, and hospitality of ITA Airways.”

The new route operates twice weekly during the Winter 2025–2026 season:

  • From Mauritius to Rome: Saturdays and Mondays at 22:10  (arrival 06:40 the following day)

  • From Rome to Mauritius: Fridays and Sundays at 22:00 (arrival 11:20 next day)

Passengers will enjoy ITA Airways’ flagship A330-900neo, featuring 30 fully flat Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy, and 237 Economy Class seats (including 36 Comfort Economy), along with Wi-Fi, new-generation entertainment systems, and Italian design interiors.

Mauritius now joins ITA Airways’ 53-destination network for Winter 2025–2026, which includes 16 domestic, 21 international, and 16 intercontinental routes. The airline is also increasing services to Bangkok and Buenos Aires and resuming Rome–Malé flights for the winter season.

As Italy’s flag carrier and global ambassador of Made in Italy, ITA Airways continues to showcase Italian excellence through its cuisine, fashion-inspired uniforms by Brunello Cucinelli, and interiors by Walter de Silva.

Tickets for the new Mauritius–Rome route are available at ita-airways.com, through travel agencies, and at airport ticket offices.
