Iberia unveils record summer schedule for Latin America

Share

Iberia is set to operate its largest-ever summer programme to Latin America, offering 3,354,159 seats between the region and Europe — a 7.6% increase compared to last summer. At peak, the airline will operate up to 366 weekly flights across the Atlantic, consolidating its position as the leading European carrier in the Latin American market.

The growth forms part of Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030 strategy, which is driving fleet expansion, capacity increases and the launch of new long-haul destinations.

Argentina Leads Capacity Expansion

Argentina will see one of the most significant increases. Between June and August, Iberia will operate 23 weekly frequencies to Buenos Aires, up from 21 currently. The Argentine capital will become Iberia’s first long-haul destination to exceed three daily flights, reaching up to four daily services during peak weeks.

On the Buenos Aires route alone, Iberia will offer 456,000 seats this summer — a 12% increase year-on-year — making it the airline’s Latin American destination with the highest frequency.

New Route to Monterrey

Mexico’s connectivity will also expand with the launch of a new Madrid–Monterrey service beginning 2 June. The route will operate three times weekly, offering 36,288 seats during the summer season. Monterrey becomes Iberia’s second Mexican destination after Mexico City, strengthening the airline’s footprint in one of the region’s most strategic markets.

Strong Growth in Brazil

Brazil will see a 15% increase in seat capacity compared to last summer, with Iberia offering nearly 400,000 seats. Growth is supported by the recent addition of Recife and Fortaleza to the network, alongside expanded operations to Rio de Janeiro.

Caribbean Expansion: Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico

The Dominican Republic will experience a substantial 21% increase in seat capacity. Iberia will operate between 10 and 11 weekly flights during the summer season, compared to 7–8 weekly frequencies in 2025.

Puerto Rico will also benefit from enhanced connectivity, with frequencies rising to 10–12 weekly flights, up from 7–9 last year.

Increased Capacity to Chile

The Santiago de Chile–Madrid route will continue its upward trajectory. Following frequency increases over the past year to 12 weekly flights — equivalent to two daily services five days per week — Iberia will offer nearly 240,000 seats this summer, representing a 7% increase year-on-year.

With more than 3.3 million seats available this summer and sustained investment in new aircraft, Iberia is reinforcing its strategic commitment to Latin America. The expansion underscores Madrid’s role as a key transatlantic hub and highlights the airline’s ambition to deepen connectivity between Europe and one of its most important long-haul markets.
