Iberia will suspend its direct Madrid–Cuba flights from June 2026 due to ongoing fuel shortages and declining demand on the island, with a tentative plan to resume operations in November if conditions improve.
The airline will scale back service ahead of the suspension, operating three weekly flights in April and two in May. The disruption stems from Cuba’s aviation fuel crisis, which has already forced Iberia and other carriers to make refuelling stops in Santo Domingo on return flights.
During the suspension, passengers will still be able to reach Cuba via Panama through Iberia’s codeshare with Copa Airlines.
The move reflects broader operational challenges affecting airlines serving Cuba, as jet fuel shortages continue to disrupt schedules and reduce demand.
